Approach for Integration - Mobile & web Apps

| Category: Mobile Applications

The popular method to integrate two different mediums/ applications has been web services.

Web services could be defined as a software system designed to support interoperable machine-to-machine interaction over a network\". It has an interface described in a machine-processable format (specifically Web Services Description Language, known by the acronym WSDL). Other systems interact with the Web service in a manner prescribed by its description using SOAP messages, typically conveyed using HTTP with an XML serialization in conjunction with other Web-related standards.

To put in simple words, two systems can communicate with each other through pre defined format.

Latest advancement of web services are WEB – API. Web API is a development in Web services (in a movement called Web 2.0) where emphasis has been moving away from SOAP based services towards representational state transfer (REST) based communications.[3] REST services do not require XML, SOAP, or WSDL service-API definitions.\r\n\r\nProven Method of communication between mobile and web applications is WEB – API with REST architecture. The output formats could be JSON/ XML. Almost all popular web technologies like PHP, JSP , ASP have inbuilt support for WEB – APIs. And it is easier to extend existing web functions too. Between JSON & XML, generally JSON is preferred for Mobile applications since its lightweight due to intelligent use of tags. But we are using Microsoft technologies for web application, due to limited support to JSON, it is better to choose XML.

We have expertise in developing web APIs using PHP & JSP. We would be glad to aid, if web technologies falls in to our expertise. One of the important milestones in our delivery plan is API definition and sign off. Our team of business analysts in conjunction with business owners decide API structure based on information flow and data to be presented in the Screen.
