Presentation Automation

A client presentation at the snap of a finger

About Client

Our client is the world leader in the habitat and construction market, who designs, manufactures and distributes high-performance and building materials. Their solutions span from self-cleaning windows and photovoltaic glass to smart insulation systems and water supply systems. Their Glass Business’ commercial glazing solutions provide energy-efficient and aesthetically pleasing options for modern buildings. The Sales & Marketing teams of the Glass Business had a pertinent challenge – humongous amount of time spent in creating presentations! And, we solved it through an application that married the functionality of a bygone era with the ease and speed of modern technologies.

The background

The client has a diverse range of products in their Glass Business with numerous glasses in different categories. The Sales and Marketing teams prepare high quality presentations to showcase the products with all the specifications and high resolution images, as well as comparative analysis. However, the process of preparing the presentation was cumbersome and time-consuming, taking away precious time and effort from the key tasks of making the right pitch. The solution the client wanted – give the teams a technology tool to create the presentations on the go, fast and easy.

The challenge

The client’s choice was a desktop application for various reasons, including the fact that they were averse to store and access from cloud. Hakuna Matata had to adopt a new strategy and technology roadmap that were not familiar with.
Being a desktop based application, the images were stored in the local storage and the application was using precious RAM for processing and draining it in the process.
During the creation of the presentations, the properties of the glasses were being imported from XML files from a third party system. But, these files were not in a structured format and were rendered unusable.

Key Results

Dinamalar is the third largest Tamil daily newspaper by circulation (Over 900,000), printed from across 10 cities. With over 100 photographers spread across the country, they had a robust capability to supplement news with images. To sustain their competitive edge in a cut throat market, they created an exclusive, secure portal for photographers to upload their images. But, in the age of the mobile and ‘breaking news’ it was not enough.

Our solution

Hakuna Matata’s solution was multi-pronged.
We developed a robust desktop application that uses the images of the glasses stored in the local storage of the system and fetches the properties of the files from an external system. The application had an internal separation as client side and server side – the server side holding the images of the products that are actually stored in the system’s hard disk space (ROM) and the client side executing the presentation process using RAM in an optimal way – thereby solving the puzzle of drain on the system’s resources.

We developed an inventive mechanism to convert the XML files into pdf files before accessing them for getting the properties/specifications of the products included in the presentation. A pdf reader was further integrated into the application to read the data.

Our impact

Even while creating a not so popular desktop application, we employed the latest technologies - Electron JS & Node JS – to create a solution that’s state of the art.
The application enables the sales and marketing professionals to create presentations faster, easier and better - freeing up their time for their core work.
The presentation also has the feature to easily compare the products.
